Pick of the day from Salone Satellite: Paper Seat
During the Milan International Trade Fair, April 17th – 22th 2012, you cannot miss Salone Satellite the ever growing “hub” for young designers from all over the world. Today my favourite pick from Salone Satellite is the “Paper Chair” by designers John Christoph, Joana Bogdnovic and Zhang Lei from China.
For two years these young designers studied Chinese traditional crafts and materials, rice paper, bamboo and silk, in Yuhang. The result of their research is the extraordinary and dreamy Paper Seat. Made from rice paper and birch wood, the Paper Seat looks like a chair fallen from heaven to me.
“Gluing layers of paper is the way how to make a traditional paper umbrella. Our Paper Seat is using same craft. The paper layers are combined until the chair is strong enough to sit on,but is still keeping its flexibility.Hand made paper is ruch of natural fibers that give strength to carry aperson and is therefore our chice for this comfortable chair.”
